“Bra’tac,” she greeted cheerfully. “It’s good to see you again! It’s pretty… usual, for around here. How are things on Chulak?”
“I wish I could inform you that all is well,” Bra’tac answered seriously, looking past her for a second and then back to her face. “Several towns have been punished for their lack of devotion for the false gods. Numerous Jaffa have been saved, but many have died. I fear that I must leave Chulak for the present and tend to the hopes of those not yet fully swayed.”
He realized that he never could meet the Tau’ri without bad news. It followed— to seek freedom from the Goa’uld was a lifetime of hard work, and the Tau’ri were working towards the same goals. One’s friends were one’s comrades in battle.
Her face fell almost instantly at his words; she’d been hoping Chulak would be granted a stretch of peace, though it seemed that wasn’t the case. As he continued, her heart sunk even further, knowing that he and Teal’c were being set back once again.
“I can’t believe this… How can they still think they’re Gods?!” Sam exclaimed with exasperation. Maybe she was missing something vital, but this was one thing that she absolutely could not wrap her head around. “Is there anything we can do to help? We can’t just leave all those people at the mercy of the Goa’uld.”
